It’s spooky season! Bodega Box Office official horror movie podcast episode: too many actors, not enough kills, and Matthew Lillard in his peak spittle phase. The movie is somehow better than the description, and this podcast episode meets somewhere in the middle of your high/low expectations.
Read MoreOn this episode we watched the “musical”(?) QUEEN OF THE DAMNED starring Aaliyah, Stuart Townsend, Marguerite Moreau, Lena Olin and Paul McGann and featuring music by Jonathan Davis of Korn. We try our hardest to celebrate Aaliyah but veer towards a conversation about Nu metal and some surprising crossovers into the rap world. We make up for it by playing some FIRE Aaliyah songs at the end.
Read MoreWe watched DEAD PRESIDENTS, a pretty good movie with an AWESOME soundtrack. Larenz Tate carries the film and 🚨SPOILER 🚨 Sticky Fingaz basically just shows up to die. Anthony plays two great tracks that tie into the political themes of the movie by Pharoahe Monch and R.A. The Rugged Man.
Read MoreHUSTLERS was one of the best films of 2019 and we watched it with our good friend Abbey. We talk a lot about the 2008 financial crash, feature some rappers who were also strippers, and we collectively freak out over THAT scene. You know the one.
Read MoreSean McTiernan aka @NoChorus of The All Units podcast and the all new Shelf Regulating System YouTube channel came through to talk about Action Bronson’s acting debut in a little film called The Irishman. You might have heard of it. It’s long. The episode is almost longer. Enjoy.
Read MoreWe finally made it to episode 100. We watched a classic, starring Ice-T, Eek A Mouse and Levert and no one else.
Read MoreRip Torn passed and Tom Green is a rapper. That was all we needed as an excuse to watch this monumental film.
Read MoreWe heard T-Pain was really funny in this, and its kind of a Fourth of July movie, so we finally knocked it off the list. Cube and Bow Wow are also in this, but we’ll have plenty of chances to talk about them, so we focused on T-Pain for this one.
Read MoreRest In Power to John Singleton. We watched HIGHER LEARNING in an attempt to pay tribute, but of course the episode just devolves into the usual nonsense.
Read MoreIt’s a new year, Kevin Hart is in the news, and it’s been a minute since we watched a movie with T.I. in it, so we reviewed GET HARD, directed by Etan Coen.
Read MoreJohn Duda from the Who Would Win In A Fight (WWWIAF) podcast came through to talk about DEEP BLUE SEA starring LL Cool J, Samuel L Jackson, Michael Rapaport and Janice Soprano. Imagine a movie podcast discussing what we didn’t like about the film. We’re quite sure it’s never happened before.
Read MoreOn episode 69 of BODEGA BOX OFFICE we watched GANG RELATED (2Pac, Kool Moe Dee). 2Pac was good, Jim Belushi was bad and we’re pretty sure he shared a fake beard with haggard Dennis Quaid. We wrap up with DOPE tracks from Tupac and OMB Peezy.
Read MoreSean McTiernan joined us to talk about his favorite movie from 1994, THE GLASS SHIELD (Ice Cube). It’s always fun when Sean stops by and boosts our film cred. He also picks a DEEP track from Scarface ft. Ice Cube and Devin the Dude.
Read MoreOn this episode we watch the Black Western epic POSSE (Tone Loc, Big Daddy Kane). The cast is so deep that Nipsey Russell gets only one line and Pam Grier just winks. We play the Big Daddy Kane remix of the classic “I’ll Take You There” to finish the episode.
Read MoreOn this episode of Bodega Box Office we are joined by A.V. Perkins, creator of The University of Dope card game. We discuss the film DOPE and have a great conversation about hip hop even if it skews a bit east coast.
Read MoreFor this episode Ryan and Anthony take a field trip to watch SET IT OFF. This is a movie we have somehow never seen, and if you haven’t, you should. If you want to skip our attempt at actual journalism to hear us carry on about a variety of subjects skip to 12:04 (you monster).
Read MoreXXX: STATE OF THE UNION (Ice Cube, Xzibit) is the subject of this episode. We get a little more film critic-y than normal, but the movie had some qualities. A fucking tank sling-shots another tank. And Ice Cube looked like an actual action star for most of the movie, even doing his own stunts to his own peril. Anthony chooses some GEMS including a banger from Scarface ft. Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Too Short.
Read MoreWe did it. After being clowned at Anthony’s work holiday party by a half-drunk middle aged man, Ryan decided it was finally time to watch JUICE. To be fair, the film basically paved the way for rappers in movies and it’s easily a top 5 rap movie. Watch it, if for no other reason than to experience Tupac acting his ass off. Ant plays a 2PAC track and Ryan caps the episode with a great Donnie Brown song featuring Ghostface.
