Episode 116: CHESS THE MUSICAL (ABBA, Murray Head)

CHESS THE MUSICAL.

For our now mandated April Fool’s day episode we picked CHESS THE MUSICAL, written by Tim Rice, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Benny Anderson. There’s several versions of this production, and we chose a concert of the songs rather than one of the actual musicals. We picked this because it was the closest thing we could find to the original plot. It’s a cold war drama more than anything else. The game of chess is just the vehicle for the ultimate goal of the audience rooting against “The Evil Russians”. Who doesn’t love a good story about decades-long geopolitical tensions turned into broadway musical smash hit? Listen to hear Anthony spiral into madness, dragging Ryan down with him.
